Hon. Raymonde Gagné (Legislative Deputy to the Government Representative in the Senate): Honourable senators, with leave of the Senate and notwithstanding rule 5-5(j), I move:

That, notwithstanding any provision of the Rules, previous order or usual practice:

1.today’s sitting begin with tributes to our late Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on September 8, 2022;

2.during these tributes each leader and facilitator be allowed up to ten minutes to speak, and other senators up to five minutes, with no senator speaking more than once;

3.these tributes continue until no other senator rises to speak, after which the Speaker read any message from the House of Commons in relation to the death of our late Sovereign, followed by consideration of any government motion moved for a humble Address to His Majesty the King relating thereto, after which the Senate adjourn;

4.the provisions of rule 3-3(1) be suspended today; and

5.the following government inquiry be placed on the Orders of the Day for the next sitting of the Senate:

“By the Honourable Senator Gagné: That she will call the attention of the Senate to the life of our late Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II.”.
