Mr. Speaker, the current Liberal-NDP government is forcing a carbon tax on the farmer who grows the food and the trucker who ships the food. This is a tax on every single Canadian who needs to buy food. Now we learn that the Liberals want to quadruple the tax, putting an extra financial burden on the farming communities that feed this country by increasing the cost not only of producing food but also of shipping it.
Canadians know that the Prime Minister is not worth the cost. After eight years, his tax-and-spend agenda has resulted in constantly raiding the wallets of those struggling, leaving less money to buy basic necessities. Using the personal bank accounts of Canadians to fund vanity projects is not the way to run a government. The Liberals have proven that they have never stepped up, nor have they exhibited even a modicum of financial responsibility. They need to step aside and let in the Conservatives, who know how to take the reins. It is time to start listening to Canadians from coast to coast to coast and to cancel the carbon tax.

Mr. Speaker, that is completely false and is empty, condescending rhetoric. Let us quote former Liberal finance minister John Manley: “This is a bit like driving your car with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake generally, especially if there's slushy conditions under your tires. That’s not a good plan for controlling the direction of your vehicle, not a good plan for controlling the direction of the economy either.”

Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government put convicted murderer, kidnapper and child rapist Paul Bernardo into a medium-security prison. Meanwhile, the PM is in Ottawa. Why will he not stand up and answer the questions?
In 2013, the Conservative government took responsibility when it was faced with exactly the same issue. Paul Bernardo was to be transferred to a medium-security prison and the Conservative government of the day said no.

This is a direct result of the government's inflation-inducing fiscal policy, which is driven by frivolous tax-and-spend policies that bankrupt Canadians. Mr. Speaker, for months, the Conservative opposition has called on the government to demonstrate even a modicum of financial management capacity and address the rampant government spending. Our calls continue to fall on the willfully deaf ears of the government. Steeped in a culture of complacency, its members continue to dodge accountability, even as news comes out about interest rates going up again today.
Higher deficits mean higher inflation, which means higher interest rates. This means that Canadians cannot afford to pay their bills. We are continuing to block the Liberal budget until the government ends inflationary deficits and spending to bring down inflation and interest rates. Today, we are putting the “Tory” in dilatory.

Mr. Speaker, clearly the members opposite are not listening to the people who have put them here.
Canadians are going to be hit by an average of $1,500 annually under carbon tax 1, and under carbon tax 2 it is an additional $573. That is over $2,000 for an average family. The Liberal government needs to reduce interest rates and get inflation under control. It could start today.
I will ask this again after being given such a lacklustre answer the first time. Will the government exercise some common sense and cancel its planned carbon taxes, yes or no?

Could the member address how the carbon tax is an absolute failure and how it has failed to reduce emissions?
We, as Conservatives, have significant concerns regarding the amendments passed in the Senate. There are 24 different amendments, 11 of which make the bill significantly worse.
After five years of consultation, how can this be drawn out further? Can he speak directly to the Liberal flip-flop causing the bill to collapse?

Mr. Speaker, the news from the PBO this morning is shocking: a second carbon tax that would add another 17¢ on a litre of gas, increasing it from 41¢ to 61¢. As the adage goes, fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice, shame on you. Canadians are no fools, and the government should be ashamed of its campaign of punitive raids on the bank accounts of Canadians who are bankrolling the government's historic debt.
With the cost of gas, heat and groceries ballooning, does the out-of-touch government really think Canadians can afford this debilitating hit to their finances?

Mr. Speaker, the paradigm shift that we need in this place is to have people in government who are fighting for the Canada that we once loved.
I got an email from an individual in my riding who is concerned with the price of the variable interest rates. She wrote that she is listing her home because her variable payment has gone from $2,000 to $4,000 a month. She has to sell because she cannot afford it. This is a couple in my riding who saved and saved. They finally got a home that they love. They renovated it beyond their expectations, and now they have to sell it.
This government is failing Canadians, and it needs to step up.

Mr. Speaker, with all due respect, in the Harper years, there was half the rent, half the mortgage and half the down payment to pay. Right now, we have a costly coalition that is continuously making it more difficult for Canadians. Houses are built of beams. Right now, the government is cancelling any dreams of home ownership.
