I’d like to ask my colleague from Beaches–East York how important, in her opinion, is certainty. Is certainty of knowing that by having the infrastructure in place—and we heard from the member from Renfrew–Nipissing–Pembroke about when you look at rural areas, people have a right to have a home. People have a right to be able to purchase a home, and we need certainty to do that.

I think what I really appreciate in Bill 165 is that by keeping energy costs down, with certainty, it allows us to take that step. How important is that in her opinion?

I want to congratulate the Minister of Infrastructure on Bill 151. Most people, and certainly most people in Ontario, would have no idea that the Ontario government is such a large landlord, that it owns so many properties across our large province. Today, when we are a province emerging with technology and innovation and reinventing ourselves to be a province for a future generation of explorers and entrepreneurs, it begs the question—to the minister—in the absence of a centralized management approach, how would we be able to take on the infrastructure of tomorrow?

The member and I share a boundary right at Keele, and not that long ago, I walked from Dufferin and Finch all the way to 31 division to be part of a community barbecue with the Toronto Police Service. When you walk from Keele going westbound, you see the infrastructure that’s going in, especially as you get to the Jane corridor. You see the infrastructure improvements, that we are building transit. You can see it for yourself, right on the street corner.

So I want to say to my friend across the way that it’s undeniable, the advancements that we’re making by building transit, and I want to ask him: Do you not see for yourself, when you walk the streets near Finch, how important it is to build transit? That’s why the bill is before the House today.

I want to ask my friend, what happens when you don’t have the vision, when you don’t plan for the future, when you don’t plan for subways, you don’t plan for infrastructure and you don’t make the plans for housing for another generation? What happens when we don’t do it? I think your remarks—and I’d like to hear your thoughts—speak to a vision, that when we have a vision, we have absolutely everything. But I want to ask you, what happens when we don’t have the vision to move forward to plan for another generation?
