Mr. Speaker, what the Conservative leader is proposing is a throwback to the failed drug policies of the Harper years, which one of that government's top advisors even acknowledged was an appalling failure.
We will continue to be there to keep everyone safe, including children in child care, while using an approach rooted in compassion and public health that keeps people safe.

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my hon. colleague for the question. This is an issue we are all concerned about.
I can assure everyone that the government is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the protection and physical safety of children across the country. We therefore support Bill C‑273 and its important purpose of protecting our children against violence and abuse. We look forward to hearing the experts during study in committee of this important legislation that we will support in a few minutes.

Mr. Speaker, what is very clear is that, regardless of our political stripes and regardless of whether we are federalist or separatist, we are all concerned about the future of our grandchildren and about protecting the environment. We will continue to work with anyone wants to work with us.
With respect to social media and news for Canadians, we continue to stand very strong against Facebook and Google, which are reluctant to pay journalists for their work. We will continue to do whatever it takes to make sure Canadians are informed about this and other issues, but we still have a lot of work to do.

Mr. Speaker, the leader opposite wants to talk about what we have done since 2015, so let us talk about that. We have lifted over 435,000 children out of poverty through the Canada child benefit, which his party campaigned against. We have created over 50,000 child care spaces to date and cut child care fees in half across the country, including six provinces and territories that are at $10 a day, and he voted against it. We have helped over 230,000 kids access dental care so far, which his party voted against.
Every step of the way, we have been there for Canadians; he has been there for himself.

Mr. Speaker, since 2015, we have put success for the middle class and all those who work hard at the heart of everything we do.
That is why we delivered a Canada child benefit that lifted 435,000 children out of poverty. To date, we have created over 50,000 child care spaces by cutting child care fees in half. We have helped over 230,000 children have access to dental care, and we have added over two million jobs to the economy, increasing the participation of women by over 3%.

Mr. Speaker, as a parent, I fully understand the concerns about families whose children require pediatric care. We are committed to ensuring that all families have access to the essential care and medications their children need. We will continue to work hand in hand with the provinces and territories to improve health care and deliver real results for Canadians. People know that our health care systems need improvement. The federal government will be there to ensure that the provinces deliver results for children and families.

Mr. Speaker, let us talk about children. Let us talk about the Canada child benefit that has lifted hundreds of thousands of kids out of poverty, a benefit that the Conservatives campaigned and voted against.
Let us talk about the fact that we are cutting child care fees in half right across the country, making a difference of thousands of dollars in the pocketbooks of Canadians, something the Conservatives voted against.
Let us talk about the fact that kids from lower-income families cannot go to the dentist because their parents cannot afford it. As of tomorrow, they will get the support to send them to the dentist, which is going to make a huge difference. Unfortunately, Conservative politicians voted against that as well.
On this side of the aisle, we will stand up for Canadians. On that side of the aisle, they will ignore them.

Mr. Speaker, I think it is beneath anyone in this House to suggest that there is any one of us who does not care about the well-being of children in this country. I know we all do. I know we are all working very hard on this.
As a government, we invested over $70 billion more over the past few years into our health care system to support the provinces to deliver during the pandemic. We are sitting down with the provinces right now to create better outcomes and better results from health care which Canadians and, yes, Canadian families, particularly Canadian kids, need and deserve.
We will continue to be there to support health care systems across the country. We will continue to work with all members of this House. All of us care about the children.

Mr. Speaker, we have heard from parents who are struggling to get pain medication for their kids. They are heartbreaking stories, and that is why Health Canada is taking concrete action to accelerate the flow of pain medication for children.
We are working closely with provinces and territories as they work to support and resupply as well. We know this is something that is part of the global disruptions we are facing because of climate change, and the pandemic has left—

Mr. Speaker, we chose to make sure that every family in this country can afford dental care for their children. That includes families in Quebec, who will have access to this benefit.
We know this is something that should transcend political considerations, but, unfortunately, the Conservatives, and apparently the Bloc, are opposed to providing dental care to children who cannot otherwise afford it.
We will be here to help children and families in these difficult times.
