Mr. Speaker, we have been investing in more protection for mosques, synagogues, places of worship, and community centres for years. We are going to keep working with police forces across the country to protect people. At the same time, we are going to underscore how important it is that all Canadians remember our values of respect, openness, tolerance and acceptance.
We will continue to be there to allow people to protest lawfully and peacefully, but also to counter hate speech and calls for violence.

Mr. Speaker, since 2015, we have been the first and only government to introduce significant measures to counter foreign interference. The very creation of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians, an initiative that the Conservative Party campaigned against and fought bitterly against while they were in government, has allowed us to see a lot more and to make sure that all parliamentarians are aware of what the intelligence community is doing to keep Canadians safe.
We have moved forward on election protection protocols. We have moved forward on more tools for our security agencies. We will continue to do everything necessary to protect Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my hon. colleague for the question. This is an issue we are all concerned about.
I can assure everyone that the government is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the protection and physical safety of children across the country. We therefore support Bill C‑273 and its important purpose of protecting our children against violence and abuse. We look forward to hearing the experts during study in committee of this important legislation that we will support in a few minutes.

Mr. Speaker, how many more supposed tough-on-crime laws passed by these Conservatives in the past decade need to be struck down by the courts before they understand that their approach is failing Canadians, is failing victims and has failed communities?
We are moving forward with real protections for Canadians that will hold up in court, that will keep people safe and that will continue to reduce the number of victims of crime in this country by keeping communities safe in real, tangible ways that will actually hold up in court.

Mr. Speaker, I think that it is important that everyone remember that. when a legislative assembly or parliament chooses to suspend the basic rights of some of its citizens, we need to give that consideration and special attention.
We know that every Quebecker and Canadian wants their fundamental protections under the Charter to be upheld. When a government chooses to set aside those fundamental protections, we have to give that some serious consideration, and that is exactly what we are pointing out.

Mr. Speaker, it is extremely important for everyone to understand that the Emergencies Act is written and structured in an extremely clear way and that we are following the instructions for applying it to the letter.
From day one, we recognized that we need to target these measures, that they must always be subject to the individual protections in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and that they will be used only if needed by local police.
That is how the Emergencies Act works.
