Mr. Speaker, the Conservative Party invoked inflation to oppose our dental care plan for seniors and our investments to pay for dental care for the most vulnerable, who may not have been to a dentist in years, or even decades.
Is that inflation? No, it is help for Canadians who are struggling, who are having a hard time paying for groceries and who are worried about the cost of living. It is help that we are sending and that the Conservative Party is blocking at all costs. That is not being there for Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, the challenge for the Conservative leader is that he failed to listen to the rest of the sentence or the interview, which explains why we decided to invest in services and support, like dental care, to help Canadians.
Two million seniors have registered for dental care. Since May 1, over 100,000 have already received dental care, and over 10,000 dentists have signed up.
The Conservative Party continues to oppose dental care and is still trying to discourage dentists from signing up. We are there to help Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, we will always work hand in hand with the provinces to provide the services that Canadians need.
However, speaking of dentists, 1.7 million seniors across the country have registered for our dental care program that will be offered across the country, including in Quebec. We are here to ensure that seniors in Quebec and the rest of the country have the necessary services and the health care that they could not afford before this year. We are here to contribute to the well-being of Quebeckers and all Canadians. We will always work respectfully in partnership with the provinces to do so.

Mr. Speaker, it is funny that the Bloc Québécois leader mentions candy, because we have a dental plan to help children who have cavities. We have brought in a plan that will help families across the country who are unable to send their children to the dentist right now. Starting next year, we will be there for seniors with dental care. We will be there for young people under 18 who need dental care and cannot afford it. Eventually, we will cover all Canadians who cannot afford to pay for dental care.
We know that oral health is important for overall health, and we are there to help families.

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the member for Vaughan—Woodbridge for his dedication to his constituents.
We introduced the Canada dental benefit because we believe that no parent should have to choose between the health of their children and putting food on the table. Today, I can announce that the Canada dental benefit has now helped 300,000 kids across the country go to the dentist, including 1,100 kids in the riding of Carleton. It is all part of our plan to make life more affordable for families, and it is a real shame the Conservatives continue to stand against a dental benefit for low-income Canadians.

Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague just suggested that money needs to be spent wisely, not on helping families send their children to the dentist. That is certainly a debate we could have, but it is not the one they chose to have.
The Conservatives are hoping that Canadians do not find out that they voted against helping send kids to the dentist. Instead, they are talking about austerity and cuts and saying that is the way to address the challenges facing Canadians.
We on this side of the House disagree with that. We are going to continue to be there for Canadians despite the austerity that the Conservatives are pushing.

Mr. Speaker, having spoken with many families across the country that are having to rely on food banks, I can say that they are also extremely worried about being able to send their kids to the dentist. These are the kinds of things they do not get to do when they are squeezed for resources.
As of tomorrow, we are opening applications for supports so that families of all income levels can send their kids to the dentist. Unfortunately, the member and all Conservatives voted against giving $1,300 for dental support over the next two years to families who need it.

Mr. Speaker, let us talk about real action.
Tomorrow, families that could not afford to send their children to the dentist will be able to start filing claims for the money to be able to do so.
The reality is that it will make a big difference in the lives of many families that are struggling to make ends meet to be able to get dental care for their children.
Unfortunately, despite my colleague's interjection, she and all of the Conservatives voted against these measures to help families access dental care.

Mr. Speaker, we will not stop ensuring that low-income families get extra help with their rental costs. We will not prevent Canadians from sending their kids to the dentist when they could not afford it before. These are measures we are putting forth that will help, in a meaningful way, millions of families across the country, yet Conservative politicians continue to stand against rental and dental support for Canadians.
If they really wanted to help Canadians in their ridings and across the country, they would step up and back our plan on rental and dental.

Mr. Speaker, the member for Lethbridge was talking about being there for folks raising families. That is exactly one of the things we are focused on right now in delivering support for families that cannot afford to send their kids to the dentist. We know there are far too many Canadians looking at the various bills they are facing and knowing they are not going to be able to send their kids to the dentist this year. That is wrong. That is why we are moving forward with $1,300 in support over the next two years, so that all families can send their kids to the dentist.

Mr. Speaker, we have all heard stories of Canadians who are struggling with the rising cost of living. That is why our government decided to do something about it. We are sending hundreds of dollars to families through the GST-HST rebate. We are also providing assistance to low-income renters and low-income families whose children need to see a dentist.
While the Conservative leader finally decided to support our measure to help families with the GST-HST rebate, he unfortunately does not support the measure to help people with dental care. When will he help Canadians with dental care?
